So my influencer sister approached me for a commission to design publicity collaterals for her Active Lifestyle brand, a collab with her best friend. Of course I'm gonna support her, she's my dear sister. I had previously designed sticker sets for her and she wasn't a nightmare to work with.
This time, she requested for an AE GIF to promote on their website and their social media pages. Back then, I had no idea how to use AE, and one of my best friends was drowning in freelance commissions and couldn't take this up. Hence, I decided to take it on and force myself to learn AE. Seriously- AE changed my life.
Starting with some simple advice from my friend and the Flowstate's brand identity, I decided to work with their colour palette (so I have a consistent style) and to imbue mountains into the design to highlight the adventure element of their brand.
I went through several iterations of the mountain before deciding on a rugged, hand-drawn sketch of the mountain against a starry night sky. Everyone loves a safe adventure with a night sky! I originally wanted to go with vector illustrations as illustrations were NOT my strong suite at all, but it didn't turn out adventurous.
After that, it was just a lot of googling and youtubing to figure out how to do animations on AE, and to also add depth to my design while highlighting the adventure/rough-it-out nature of the brand. I was pretty happy with the results- few days of hard work paid off and my sister loved it. :)
